Each county directory on the MSDIS FTP site has the official census tract & voting district
outline maps in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. These are stored in the county/county_name/utm/censusmaps/
subdirectory. The .pdf files prefixed 'PB' are block outline maps, those
prefixed 'CT' are tract outline maps and those prefixed 'PV' are voting
precinct outline
maps.
These maps are now available to view and navigate as clickable image maps
for drill down navigation.
You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader software to view the .pdf files. This
software is available free from Adobe Systems.
Using the Clickable Maps you can
click on any county tract (CT) and load the corresponding block (PB) map.
Smaller text indicates that an inset map is available. Click on the letter
to load the inset map. The colored regions of the map with names/small
text also have links to PB maps. These maps are best approximations of the
original
maps. For the original maps a link to the .pdf File is provided on the
right hand side of the map.
The ftp
site link directs you to the MSDIS ftp (ftp://msdis.missouri.edu/pub/)
site where you can download the maps as pdf files. To know which map is
the
corresponding
map you need
to
look at the index filepb29xxx_000.pdf. This file provides a key
with numbers. Using these numbers you can go the corresponding file and
view/download
the PB map.
