Most of the data files on MSDIS have been gzipped (compressed) for
faster download time. gzip compresses ascii files by 50-70%. Most modern operating systems come with embedded zip software which should be able to unzip any of the files avaialable from MSDIS. You can also use a bolt on zip utility such as WinZip.

Alternatively you can use one of many other zip utilities many of which are available free of charge and can easily be found via internet search.
