1). Why are there not more classes or more advanced classes available
currently at the Geospatial Training Center (GTC)?
Ans: The GTC is a new pilot offering to determine the need for training
in the Mid-Missouri region and provide it where possible. Initially it
will offer basic courses and add instructors and courses as interest indicates
they are needed.
2). How are course costs determined?
Ans: Costs are determined by the individual instructors – the University
adds a small stipend per student per day for use of the facilities, IT
support, utility costs and most importantly registration costs and fiscal
processing.
3). How current is the hardware/software available for instructional
use?
Ans: The hardware is current and fully functional to perform GIS tasks
and analysis – similar to what you would find on most up-to-date
college campuses instructing GIS topics. The software is current, maintained
and can usually be adjusted to most course requirements.
4). Is the GTC available to other geospatial instructors to utilize to
teach perspective students?
Ans: Yes – but scheduling must take into account the normal requirements
of the regular UMC student population during the active semesters. Semester
breaks - most particularly the summer break provide many opportunities
to utilize the facilities. Please schedule through Mark Duewell, (573)
882-6734, duewellm@missouri.edu or Dianne Roberts, (573) 882-1404, robertsd@missouri.edu.
5). Can the GTC work with smaller class sizes if I have several students
in my group wanting training?
Ans: Typically – yes – but the final decision is always the
instructor’s – the GTC is happy to provide assistance with
such negotiations.
